Eurocom Hollywood Today I´m talking about Hollywood, I have chosen this topic, because I´m very interessted in stars and film. Here is Hollywood, it´s in California, California is on the west coast of the USA, Hollywood is a district of Los Angeles. It´s called dream factory, because it is the home of the “rich and famous”, it is also the city, where everything is possible. The name Hollywood means in German Stechpalmenwald. Hollywood was founded in 1897 when the first cinema in the USA opened in Los Angeles. At first they filmed only filmlets in Hollywood, they only took several minutes. They filmed with a kinestoscope, that was the first camera. In 1910 Cecil DeMill began to film in a horse stable, that was the first film production in Hollywood it was a western, called “the squaw man”. It was also the first feature film. He and other producers have made Hollywood as the capital of film. And the actors and actrisses became famous. Here are for examle Charlie Caplin, Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks. In 1922 the first deluxcinemas opened in Hollywood. Now the smaller studios were bought up from bigger firms and all actors and actrisses became big stars. At this year the Hollywood Bowl opened, too. The Hollywood Bowl is one of the world´s largest amphietheaters it has got 18000 seats. The Hollywood Bowl is the home of the L.A. philharmonic orcestra but there are many special rock and pop concerts, too. The Beatles were the first rockband who played at the Bowl, but over the years the Bowl has seen concerts by very famous stars like Sting, Elton John, Rod Steward and many more. Ticket prices usuallly rage from 77$ to 12$- depending upon who´s on stage. Rod Steward´s concert set a record for top ticket price of 150$ for prime seats that’s something like 125 €. In 1923 the Hollywoodsign was constructed. First it has built Hollywoodland then it was shorted and now there is only Hollywood. The Hollywoodsign is one of the most famous buildings in the world, the letters are 15 meters high and 137 meters long. A famous sight of Hollywood is the Man´s Chinese Theater, it is a very big cinema. Today people visit it because of the hand- and foot impressions which are made of cement. Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford have made this for the first time in 1927. Only the most famous stars are allowed to do this. 200 have left their impressions till today. First star placed on the Walk of Fame in 1959 for the actress Joanne Woodward. The Walk of Fame lines both sides of Hollywood Boulevard. There are disks on the sidewalks, they are starlike and made of brass. Every three weeks the Walk of Fame gets a new star the government of Los Angeles affects, who is allowed to get a star. Today there are more than 2500 stars. Two weeks ago Brithney Spears got a star. Today Hollywood is full of tourists, there are many museums two of them are the Hollywood Entertainment Museum and the Hollywood History Museum. The Entertainment Museum takes visitors on a tour of film and TV productions you can visit sets of famous series as 'Star Trek” and you can see original costumes from old and new films. The Hollywood History Museum shows the old and glamourous Hollywood, when real stars like Charlie Caplin lived in Hollywood and it shows the history of the film,too. Today in Hollywood isn´t any film industrie, there is only one studio left, this is the paramount studio. The film productions are especially in Burbank or in Calver City, because the building land there is cheaper and they can build bigger studios there. Today there are many theme parks from the studios in Hollywood, they are arranged like Disneyland.
